Ministry of Transport Begins Roadside Audit in Monrovia to Assess Road Saturation and Traffic Signage

Road Safety Auditor in Waterside

Monrovia, May 7, 2025. The audit aims to evaluate the presence and effectiveness of traffic and road signs, as well as how road users are responding to and utilizing them. The initial phase of the exercise covered major streets in the capital, including Water Street, Front Street, Ashmun Street, Broad Street, and the Capitol Bypass.
According to the Ministry, the audit will help identify gaps in road signage and user compliance, which are critical to improving urban traffic management and enhancing safety for motorists and pedestrians alike.
Speaking during the audit, a senior official of the Road Safety Secretariat emphasized that the Ministry is working to ensure a more organized and regulated traffic environment. As part of its broader road safety strategy, the Ministry of Transport is preparing to install 25 new traffic lights and 100 traffic cameras across Monrovia and its environs. These installations are expected to aid in traffic control, reduce accidents, and enforce road regulations more effectively.
The Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to modernizing Liberia’s transport infrastructure, urging the public to cooperate fully as the audit and subsequent upgrades are carried out.
